Alldrin & Sons Alaska Salmon
Our family bought into the commercial salmon fishery in Alaska in 2005. We choose to participate in this fishery because of our belief that our natural resources need to be maintained at healthy levels before ‘mankind’ gets a chance to influence them adversely. All commercially caught seafood in Alaska is certified as ‘sustainable’ by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). This certification is based on the state of Alaska’s constitutional mandate that stipulates that all fish ‘be utilized, developed and maintained on the sustained yield principle.’ In all areas of Alaska that allow commercial fishing, the commercial catch is allowed only when the biological escapement goal for each specific river system is reached.
During the school year I act as a school counselor at an alternative education high school in Corning CA. During the summer months, my three teenage boys and myself run a small fishing operation out of Kenai Alaska. All of our fish are handled responsibly with the catch immediately going into slush ice totes where they are kept at near freezing temperatures until being processed by a certified processing plant later that day. They are cut into either fillets or portions, vacuum bagged, flash frozen and shipped to our storage here in Chico. For a fresher fish, you’d have to catch it yourself! We currently sell at the Saturday Chico Certified Farmers Market from September through March.
Alldrin and Sons! Lance, Caleb (age 19 with 7 seasons in Alaska), Tim (age 16 with 3 seasons) and Luke (age 14 with 3 seasons) Wife Mary helps at the market, keeps the finances in order and prefers her fish interaction to be limited to a fillet on the BBQ!

Seven Diamonds Orchards
Seven Diamonds Orchards is a 10-acre organic almond orchard located a few minutes from downtown Chico. Our orchard specializes in raw, non-pasteurized almonds, which means they are not altered in any way. The varieties produced at the orchard are Price Cluster, a very nice, almost sweet tasting nut, and a favorite of our customers, and Peerless, which has nice size and flavor. California Certified Organic Farmers inspects the orchard operation annually for compliance with organic regulations.
Seven Diamonds Orchards is exempt from pasteurization requirements because we sell our product at farmers markets and directly to the public. The pasteurization rules allow our operation to sell up to 100 lbs to any individual or business. Organic and non-organic almonds sold in retail stores through out California, including health and natural food stores, must be pasteurized either with a chemical or steam process. Imported almonds, however, are exempt from this requirement.
Our 2013 prices are: $8/lb., $7.50/lb for 10-20 lbs., and $7/lb for 20 lbs. or more. Organic almond butter, creamy & crunchy, sells for $7/9oz. jar and $12/16oz. jar. We are selling raw natural honey for 58 cents/oz. or $9.30/lb. For more info about the orchard or to place an order, contact Phyllis by e-mail Sevendiamondsorchards@yahoo.com or (530) 343-5776.
Owners John Drzal and Phyllis Bond converted the orchard to organic production nine years ago. Organic production means no synthetic fertilizers, sprays or chemicals are applied in the orchard. Our sustainable farming practices include cover cropping, manure/compost nutrients, a highly efficient micro-spray irrigation system, and a solar energy system that meets the electrical power needs of the orchard.
